High fuel prices are driving people to alternate home heating solutions. Wood stove inserts provide one solution to the high heating fuel costs. And many people are considering them, either as a complete replacement or as a supplement to oil burning furnaces. As fuel prices soar, so do the purchases of wood stove inserts.

The Wall Street Journal reports that even though crude oil and gasoline prices have dropped recently, U.S. households are expected to spend 20% more this winter on heating their homes with oil, natural gas, propane and electricity.

People are realizing they can’t do anything about the price of heating fuels for their homes, but they can implement changes to reduce the amount they use.

As reported in the Lewisboro Ledger, one family took an alternate route, and installed one of the wood stove inserts into their existing fireplace.  “It far exceeded what my expectations were,” Mr. Silenok said. “Last winter, I heated the house with wood. I recouped my costs for the stove the first winter.”
