The Fuel Efficiency Calculator will give you an estimate of how much money you can save if you switch to an alternate home heating method. For example, if you plan on switching from an oil burning furnace to a wood fireplace insert, you can learn how much you will save over the period of one heating year.
To use the fuel efficiency calculator:
- Select the type of fuel you are currently using to heat your home. Are you using heating oil, electricity, natural gas, or propane?
- Next, select one of the heating products listed under the headings Wood & Pellet, Other Alternatives, Gas, or Electricity.
- "Wood & Pellet" includes the choices of a pellet stove, wood stove, wood fireplace insert, or the pellet fireplace insert.
- "Other Alternatives" include heating with a coal stove, a corn stove, a corn fireplace insert, or a coal fireplace insert
- "Gas" heading includes the options of vent-free gas fireplace insert, gas fireplace insert, gas stove, propane stove, propane fireplace insert, gas fireplace, vent-free gas stove, vent-free log set, or a propane fireplace.
